Beyond the Impact Factor

Beyond the Impact Factor In-Person

The impact factor has long dominated discussions of research quality, but it often overshadows what truly matters: accessibility, transparency, and real-world influence. In an open access world, the reach of scholarship extends far beyond journal prestige—enabling wider readership, greater collaboration, and stronger societal impact. This session will look at how moving beyond the impact factor opens up new ways to value research, including open access dissemination and the responsible use of article-level and alternative metrics. Together, we’ll explore how openness reshapes the way we recognise and reward scholarly contributions.

This is an on-campus session to be held at Kedleston Road in Room N510
